But what marriage bring into the family? More family members, up side is bringing in resources but the down side is more interpersonal relationship need to deal with. It could be different from engaged couple.
Wedding is a ritual to introduce the new member in the family, to your extended family and friends. It is also giving an announcement about your marriage and status. It shows a move of life from single-hood. When this movement or status is normal in your society, then it implies 'you are normal too!'
Some people would like to highlight their uniqueness by prolonging the period of single-hood, using unusual way to execute the wedding ritual, etc. Actually, it's not easy to be very creative in this kind of traditional event which is completely accepted. So, it's very nice to see when it happens. And don't forget to appreciate the effort has been made by the new couple!
