point of view, but there's somethings caught my eye:
"At home, sex-toy shops spread rapidly—few of them officially licensed
but all eager for the low-priced goods that the Wu business had to
offer. Such is the power of Chinese consumerism that, for all the
party's disdain, sex shops became more commonplace in urban China than
they are in most western cities. The Wus defend their products to
sometimes sceptical officials by arguing that they help promote
marital harmony, deter men from seeking prostitutes and keep the
population in check by allowing people to relieve their frustrations
without engaging in real sex."
OK, we already knew the one-child policy is affecting China a lot! In
terms of imbalance between male and female ratio. There's not enough
girls for most of the guys (sadly mostly they are in a less popular
position of the mating category, such as low education, low income,
etc.) And we also heard news about city working girls are complaining
about they're not able to get "good quality" guys who are still
available. It is reflecting the society is still promoting
heterosexual monogamy relationship, and expecting the
marriage/relationship can help you to move up in the social class.
People also expect their sexual need would be fulfilled once you're
engaged in a marriage/relationship. But they may not think sexual
needs are important by itself. So, prostitution, as a long lasting
business which helps a lot of single to fulfill their sexual needs, is
still being blamed and banned for all kinds of reasons (like not
hygiene, unethical, immoral, dirty, etc.) Because sex without
love/romance seems not a good thing for some people, so, it's not
recommended?! Maybe, but I don't really see sex-toy can "deter men
from seeking prostitutes"!
Business is business, it appears when the demand is here. But I don't
think they need to decorate their business in a moral way!
For some people, using sex-toy can improve their enjoyment of sex, the
criteria is:-
1. Effect of the sex-toy is not overly interpret
2. Mutual agreement of using sex-toy
3. Choose the sex-toy is well designed and safe to use
4. Be aware of sex-toy hygiene
5. Read the user manual properly before you use it
6. Seek for consultation if you need
